Global Technology Reseller – BSM Maturity Assessment

Stonebridge BSM recently performed a comprehensive ISO20000/BSM Maturity Assessment for a global technology reseller. The client selected BMC Remedy as its standard technology platform and was reabsorbing some IT resources originally transitioned in an outsourcing arrangement. The client wanted to utilize Remedy’s “out of the box” technology solutions where possible and move towards a global unified standard IT platform.

To that end, Stonebridge assessed and validated its current environment. At a high level, the assessment focused on the following deliverables:

  • Review and validate current state of the client’s IT environment
  • Identification of gaps between its current state and envisioned future state
  • Prioritization of the gaps to identify, where possible, immediate improvements that can be made and provide value to the organization
  • Actionable recommendations to close the gaps and to improve the client’s ability to execute and manage IT services
  • Development of plans and roadmaps for the implementation of the future state
  • Recommendation of training guidelines for the client’s IT staff

Using Stonebridge’s assessment findings and detailed recommendations, the client expects to accelerate the planning and execution of its performance-based strategies initiatives.

Exploration & Production Company – BMC IT Business Management Implementation

Stonebridge completed a BSM engagement for an E&P client seeking to improve the performance, service, and productivity of its IT environment. Our client was saddled with manually intensive data accessibility issues and consequently relied heavily on Excel spread sheets to manage IT resources and projects. The result: an IT environment with limited prioritization capabilities and potential inefficiencies in workload balancing.

To address those challenges, the client selected BMC’s IT Business Management (ITBM) software, specifically the Project Portfolio Manager (PPM), Human Capital Management (HCM), and Vendor Relationship Management (VRM) modules, in order to manage and meet IT priorities and focus on activities that directly produce positive impacts – all with an eye on “keeping the drill bit turning.”

The client selected Stonebridge to implement the ITBM software – which included developing the design specification, data and system architectures, installing the tool, and rolling out the solution – and to provide functional training to end users.

Stonebridge’s ITBM solution enabled to the client to:

  • Transform the management of projects and resources from a reactive to proactive environment
  • Provide real-time project and resource status, schedules and costs to executive and operational management
  • Provide capability for resource allocation and scheduling / timekeeping
  • Provide visibility to improve control and realize optimization of running IT as a business
  • Improve the level of customer service as demand grows for IT business solutions with minimal headcount impact

Stonebridge continues to be actively engaged with this customer in a report development capacity, converting the Business Objects framework to the Cognos framework, and developing several reports for end users.

Global Diversified Industrial Company – BMC BSM Solution Implementation

A $13 billion global diversified industrial company engaged Stonebridge to implement a BMC-based BSM solution. The client had an IT asset management consolidation effort under way; however, inconsistent global business practices, the client’s reliance on rudimentary, manually intensive tools (spreadsheets), and the lack of a central repository for IT asset, contract, and financial data resulted in lost productivity savings each month from ineffective leveraging of assets.

To help with these challenges, the client selected Stonebridge to implement several BMC solutions including Remedy Asset Management software; Configuration Management Database; and IT Business Management Software for Vendor Relationship Management and Financial Resource Management. The project objectives were to enable the client to proactively manage all IT assets; drive annual productivity cost savings; and establish a central data repository containing all IT assets, contracts and financial data.

The BSM solution eliminated manual inventories; simplified and automated reporting; provided supplier scorecards; optimized the lease/refresh process; documented the value chain by linking assets to sectors, functions, and people; and managed the intricacies of a global environment.

The BMC solution enabled the client to:

  • Manage risk by ensuring compliance with all software license agreements
  • Reduce overall IT costs by establishing a baseline, managing inventory, and proactively managing the IT asset lifecycle
  • Reduce the end-to-end refresh cycle for hardware from three months to one
  • Better leverage existing assets for peripheral requests
  • Prescribe a standard asset-refresh process for all leases, resulting in lower lease cost and greater technology
  • Achieve additional discounts from a key suppliers on standard purchases
  • Improve customer satisfaction – and improve employee productivity and overall satisfaction

Public Sector/Local Government – IT Business Management Software Upgrade

Stonebridge recently provided technical expertise and support to a Local Government agency that upgraded its BMC IT Business Management software installation to version 3.8.0.1. Modules included in the upgrade were Project Portfolio Management, Vendor Relationship Management, Financial Resource Management, and Human Capital Management.

Public Sector/Municipal Government Agency– ISO/IEC20000 BSM Maturity Assessment

Stonebridge BSM recently performed a comprehensive ISO/IEC20000/BSM Maturity Assessment for a large local government agency. The client is spearheading a number of initiatives that use technology to streamline the processes and services of its IT organization, including the consolidation of 90+ data centers and services into a shared services organization. As a part of this undertaking, the client was required to measure the capability and maturity of its services relative to ITSM best practices.

The agency engaged to Stonebridge to assess all processes using the ISO20000 and ITIL v3 frameworks. The assessment focused on the following high-level deliverables:

  • Review and validate current state of the client’s ITSM process environment
  • Identification of gaps between its current state and envisioned future state
  • Prioritization of the gaps to identify, where possible, immediate improvements that can be made and provide value to the organization
  • Actionable recommendations to close the gaps and to improve the client’s ability to execute and manage IT services
  • Development of plans and roadmaps for the implementation of the future state
  • Development of a mini-assessment template for ongoing agency use

Using Stonebridge’s assessment findings and detailed recommendations, the agency expects to significantly impact the cost and quality of IT services.
